Please include information about 'Open Broadcaster Software'. This is free/OS broadcasting software (mostly gamer-centric), but it capable to save files. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.81.134.156 (talk) 16:19, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- Do you mean OpenBroadcaster? I am reading the article and it is a Community radio app. Are you sure you got your facts right?
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 16:32, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, no. It is called 'Open Broadcaster Software' exactly. URL: https://obsproject.com/. I haven't seen this software mentioned anywhere on wiki, but it is more powerful that other programs mentioned.
- 93.81.134.156 (talk) 17:54, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- It does not seem to have an article on Wikipedia. So, sorry. List articles are in fact Wikipedia's tables of contents. But there are several software-related wikis over the Internet that accept this entry. (That's because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, but they are not.) Softpedia has already listed this item.
- Best regards,
- Codename Lisa (talk) 18:58, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- P.S. If you have evidence that proves OBS is a notable topic (i.e. has proven to have significant impact on the world outside), you can write a Wikipedia article for it and then, we will add it here. I am not going to lie to you: This is going to be a grueling task. Other editors might offer you assistance, but I am currently engaged. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 19:05, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
- Where is the rule that says that something has to have an article on Wikipedia to be listed? 2001:983:58DF:1:792A:1A99:9EA0:C4E6 (talk) 20:45, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Suggest you add AnyVideoConverter (free version) to list of software that can record screen. It can also record videos from the web in the background. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.73.116.26 (talk) 14:34, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
Adding feature: LiveStream?[edit]
Hi, I'm not really used to adding things to Wikipedia articles, but what do you think about adding a few more features in the comparison?
I'm thinking about adding a Live Stream support column. That would list the supported live stream protocols/plateforms by the different softwares. -- 11:42, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
I am looking for softwares that have live streaming capabilities. 66.233.156.4 (talk) 09:40, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I think the list needs to somehow include web-based screen recording products, such as Hangouts on Air, uStream, Livestream and ScreenrLeighblackall (talk) 02:46, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
Adding feature: Software control (API, SDK, etc) ?[edit]
Perhaps it might make sense to track, which tools can be used as libraries or servers, controlled by some larger host application and acting on its requests. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.90.120.180 (talk) 14:22, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Merger proposal[edit]
This article should be merged with List of screencasting software instead of being deleted (cf List of instant messaging clients). 16@r (talk) 11:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I am willing to revive a merger proposal: In my opinion, the section Screencast → Software must be merged into List of screencasting software and Comparison of screencasting software. There is really no point keeping two places for list of software. Fleet Command (talk) 07:07, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- I boldly merged the page List of screencasting software to here, earlier today. I've left an explanatory note at Talk:List of screencasting software#Merged, commenting on left out details, and other options.
- Note: Fleetcommand completed his merger from Screencast#Software to these 2 lists, in August. -- Quiddity (talk) 06:34, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. I did so per Wikipedia:Silence and consensus. Fleet Command (talk) 11:21, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

VirtualDub[edit]
Your search - screencast site:virtualdub.org - did not match any documents. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DennisDaniels (talk • contribs) 19:38, 22 May 2009
- My thoughts too...until I've realized VirtualDub calls it screen capture. Try 'screen capture' site:virtualdub.org and you'll see hundreds of mentions in their blog. -79.179.200.231 (talk) 01:09, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
New Mac Apps & Jing for Mac & Windows[edit]
In the Screencasting article I just added Jing for Mac & Windows and also added links for Jing and iShowU HD. I'm not adept enough at editing tables to want to mess things up here. If someone could figure out the comparisons for them and add them to the table, it would be great! —Preceding unsigned comment added by JazzyGroove (talk • contribs) 22:11, 3 June 2009

Recording video from screen?[edit]
Pity the article says nothing about recording a streaming video, including only recording the video and not the whole screen. 89.243.182.24 (talk) 20:22, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

WeGame[edit]
I might be a good idea to add WeGame onto this list as it is a game screen capture program. PinothyJ (talk) 07:22, 9 May 2010 (UTC)…
Play Claw[edit]
Play Claw should be added to the chart. Terrorist96 (talk) 21:32, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Web applications[edit]
The three programs that have 'web application' under their 'OS' heading, all seem to be using java applets. Can anyone determine whether they are all using the same codebase, and if so where it originated? (ideally, via reliable sources, so that we can document it here; but through your own dissection would work for my own curiosity (and the benefit of WP:WikiProject Screencast).) Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 17:44, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
All entries lacking an article deleted[edit]
Alright everyone, spam party is over. The first pillar of Wikipedia is Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, which says Wikipedia is not an advertisement platform. Therefore every single entry in this list must show an evidence that it is not an advertisement and actually have popular acceptance. A Wikipedia article or at least one citation in reliablesecondary sources is required. That means people are not allowed to create a user account only to advertise the product of that company here, especially one that corresponds to their company name.
For sometimes now, I saw red links in this list but tolerated them because I assumed good faith in their contributors and thought they will add the corresponding article too. But this never happened. Hence, as explained in Wikipedia:Write the article first, from this point on, every single entry in this list must have a corresponding Wikipedia article.
I am ready to negotiate on this point will all of you Wikipedians, but if your only reason is 'ignore all rules, simply because doing so is so HOT!', then know that your negotiation will not even start. Fleet Command (talk) 09:05, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- I must admit that I disagree with this approach, especially in this article which is just listing available screencasting software and compare some basic features for these. I cannot see why adding a product/company without a corresponding article for the product or company is advertising. People should have the choice to see the product in the list even though the product or company does not have a corresponding describing article. I am no where affiliated with Demo Builder which I tried to add for some days ago, but which was removed due to the above described approach. - Misuo (talk) 08:42, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I am afraid you do not have the luxury of disagreeing here: This is a Wikipedia policy. And it does not matter whether you are affiliated with the product or not; it is what your edit amounts to. Fleet Command (talk) 18:13, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- An article isn't required by policies, it's only required that it shall be 'not an advertisement and actually have popular acceptance' (WP:NOTADVERT). Wikipedia:Notability#Stand-alone lists confirms that inclusion into a list requires less notability than a stand-alone article, Wikipedia:Write the article first just reflects the rule of thumb. Neither writing an article shows that the software is popular - as of now, there is still no consensus on precise criteria of software notability so article checkers more focus on style and the product's project status. — Vano 07:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Supported formats[edit]
It would be useful to add a column in the features table with the formats in which the apps can record. I do not have time to do it for all apps though (I do have it for some, as I am researching which one I am going to use). Mencial (talk) 14:31, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Disagree. I am afraid I think this is a very bad idea. Such a column is very difficult to maintain and gives no vital information to the reader. After all, not many people know the difference between a container format, a video format and an audio format. Most people don't even know that they exist. All they know is whether it works or not. Besides, most of the supported formats are probably the same. Fleet Command (talk) 07:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
